I recently became a senior in high school and I had
to learn about all of the steps you have to take in order to go to college.
This was hard for me because I have never done it or seen anyone else go
through the process so it was approaching the situation blind. My whole life I have
dreamed of graduating college and living a happy life. I wanted to make sure
that I followed all of the necessary steps to ensure that I would get into a
good college, debt-free, and that I will be in a program that will lead me to
be the best I can be. I want kids like me or even younger than me to have an
idea of what they’re getting into. That way they can approach the same
situation with a little more knowledge and they can be more prepared.
The project will start by doing research on all different
types of ways you can get money for college and the steps for finding the money
and applying for it. I will go on the college planning websites and see what steps
they say you should follow. I want my product to target those who don’t necessarily
have the money for college so I can outline the steps that make paying for
college easier however I believe any person should be able to benefit from my
product. I will need to look into all of the different scholarships offered and
understand what qualifications are needed. Also I will need to learn all of the
different types of loans, grants, and scholarships that are offered. I have a
basic understanding of all of these concepts but I will need to look into each
of them in depth to be able to understand and inform others. In order to do
something with my research I will need to learn how to make and structure a
brochure well enough to get all of my points that I need to get across in a way
that is neat and easy to understand.
To guide me
through my research I plan to use the stuff sent to me in the mail. I have
received lots of information from different universities and I want to combine
them to one big broad thing full of information. Also, I can use college planning
websites such as collegeboard or any other websites similar. Other websites
that will be useful will be google, scholarship websites, and each schools
scholarship portals. I want to find people who have become successful in
different ways and ask them about their journey into college and all of the
things they got to learn from experience. I will need to go around to all
different types of people that have graduated college and talk to them. For
example, the teachers around the school, lawyers, doctors, and any other people
willing to share their experiences. So I can share not only what I learned but
what they have learned and experienced as well.
By the end of my research I will have an outline of the
steps one should follow if they hope to be successful in applying to college.
The most important part is getting through at least 4 years of college
debt-free. My end product will be a brochure outlining the steps that could be
taken prior to senior year so that you can be further prepared and it may even
be a little easier. The rest of my brochure will outline the steps that can be
taken between the beginning of senior year to when classes start the following
fall.
This topic is viable because school and money are some of
the things that I am most passionate about and I believe that school leads to
money. I also believe if you finish your 4th year of college in a lot of debt
that you didn’t work to your highest potential at some point and it could lead
to a lot less money. I want other people that may feel similar to the way I do
to get the chance to plan ahead and ensure that whatever goals they may have,
they get to accomplish them with little or no debt.
